We want everyone who attends our performances to thoroughly enjoy the show. Below are a few hints that you may find helpful to enhance the experience.
Before the show
Some people are concerned about what to wear to the theatre, but don’t worry, there isn’t a dress code! We want you to feel comfortable but you never know who you might meet, so we suggest a smart casual outfit. It can sometimes be cold in the theatres so bring a jacket or scarf.
Make sure you arrive at the Theatre at least 20 minutes prior to the show beginning. It’s always a good idea to arrive early for ticket collection and to be in your seat before the show. If you arrive late for certain shows, you may not be admitted until an appropriate time. We don’t want you to miss out!
Printed programs will be available for purchase at each show (for a gold coin donation). Be sure to arrive early enough to read the program, so that you will have an idea of what to expect in the show. It will make the show more enjoyable and you’ll learn things that might surprise you.
During the show
Please remember to turn your mobile phone OFF when you enter the theatres. No unauthorised recording of any sort is permitted inside the theatre, this includes photos, video and audio recordings.
The Adelaide Festival Centre is a smoke-free venue. Smoking is only permitted outside the building.
The acoustics of our theatres are such, that talking or whispering during a performance is likely to be heard on stage. Please refrain from talking during the performance. Also remember that the people sitting near you did not come to hear you, they came to enjoy the performance.
This is a live performance before a live audience. Your part is to let the actors know that you appreciate the show. That means laughing at funny parts, cheering when it’s called for, applauding when you like something, and perhaps even shrieking when you are scared. These are live actors and their performance will be affected by your reactions. For those new to theatre, audiences applaud at the end of the act before the interval and also at the end of the show, when actors take their bows
After the show
When the performance is over, it’s important to show your appreciation by applauding for the performers. Actors are thrilled when they receive a standing ovation. There is usually a curtain call, which is when the actors come on stage to receive your appreciation.
If you enjoyed you time at the show, then please tell your friends. We want as many people to experience our productions and we love it when our loyal subscribers introduce new people to our shows.
We love feedback too!
