Education Program

"Worse than not realizing the dreams of your youth, would be to have been young and never dreamed at all." Jean Genet

There have been so many changes in the educational world over the past few years. The SACE curriculum has changed, we are moving towards a national curriculum and social media is influencing people like never before, with our teaching practices re-shaping and evolving to keep up.

However one thing will always remain the same - imagination. Theatre is about bringing that imagination to life, taking us to fantastical places and igniting the passion within.

Over the last four years we have seen our Education Program grow and evolve. 2011 saw over 6,500 students attend performances and workshops throughout the State and the feedback we have received is inspiring.

"The students 'buzzed' all the way home," – Lisa
"I loved it. What a great script, good acting and direction – what a treat for regional high schoolers" - Sue.

We hope to continue challenging and inspiring young minds with our 2012 program. Our Education Show, War Mother is a compilation of short hard hitting plays by Dario Fo & Franca Rame, Harold Pinter and Marjolijn van Heemstra with songs by Bertolt Brecht, that present diverse political and social views of the human condition.

Our popular Day With State performances bring contemporary and classic themes from writers such as Patrick White, Tennessee Williams and Caryl Churchill with new work by Rosemary Myers and Julianne O'Brien. We will also continue to evolve our workshop program based on the changing curriculum.

So in 2012, where will your imagination take you?

A note from our 2012 Program Partner, ElectraNet

I am delighted to welcome you to the intensively thought-provoking 2012 regional educational tour, War Mother.

ElectraNet is proud to once again support State Theatre Company – as the Program Partner for the 2012 regional educational tour – to help boost the active engagement of students from across the state in exciting live theatre.  Such valuable learning opportunities develop students' vital creative and cultural expression and encourage the pursuit of artistic excellence.

As South Australia's electricity transmission specialist, ElectraNet seeks to support a wide range of communities in areas where our electricity transmission assets are located.  To this end, we trust that this year's regional tour of SA will prove to be a valuable learning experience for all involved.

Please enjoy!
